As a multi-faceted Black woman, there are so many areas in your life that impact what success looks like for you. Happy fulfilling relationships. Confident loving children. Your relationship with God. Balancing your personal life with your professional life.

Those are all extremely important.

Today, however, I’m going to focus exclusively on defining what business success means for you.

Now, the first thing most people think of when it comes to business success is, money! How much am I making, how does it compare to how much I made yesterday, how can I make more?

Another measure of success might be recognition. Do people know who I am, are they reading my social media and blog posts, why isn’t Oprah calling me??? 😆

Today, I’m asking you to take a step back and get beyond the conventional. Let’s explore how you can break free from the expectations of society and create your own definition of business success.

Let’s get into it!

Defining your success

Identify Your Why

For the past several weeks, I’ve talked about your business mission statement and your business vision statement. A big part of crafting both of these is figuring out your why—the purpose and driving force behind your entrepreneurial journey. Take a good look at your notes from the past four weeks, and ask yourself these questions again: What motivates you? What impact do you want to make in the world? This is going to be a major part of defining your success in business.

Set Meaningful Goals

Profit-related goals are nice, but your business goals should go beyond financial targets. Look at measurements that encompass other aspects of your business, such as client satisfaction, social impact, or professional growth. Consider measuring your success in terms of reaching milestones in these areas.

Prioritize Work-Life Balance

Success is not solely measured by business achievements. It’s important to prioritize the balance of your work and your life, and keep it healthy. Take care of your well-being, nurture personal relationships, and engage in activities that bring you joy. Remember, a successful business is one that supports a fulfilling life.

Wrapping up

Defining business success for yourself allows you to create a business that aligns with your values and aspirations. It’s about identifying your why, setting meaningful goals, embracing growth, and prioritizing work-life integration. Remember, success is a personal journey, and your definition may evolve over time. Embrace your unique path and create a business that brings you joy and fulfillment, and embodies your definition of success!
