Let’s be real – we started our businesses for many reasons, but a big one is…MONEY.

So, let’s talk about money.

Let’s talk about money with our clients.

Whoo. This can be a tough one.

Why is this so hard for so many people?

Scarcity Mindset

For many people, talking about money is difficult because of their mindset. They may not feel their talents are worth what they want or need to charge. They may not feel they deserve what they want to charge.

Let’s throw that away right now. You ARE worth it! You are providing a service to your clients that they either can’t provide for themselves or don’t have the resources to do for themselves. You are not just offering a service – you are filling a need using your expert knowledge.

Another way a scarcity mindset may present is being afraid clients will walk away once they hear your price. We are terrified of rejection, so we hem and haw and waver about how much to charge, then we charge too little, and then we feel cheated because of the amount of work we are putting in.

Remember, your value extends beyond your rates. Decide on pricing that is fair to you and your clients, and make it clear. Having a transparent, well-defined pricing strategy will increase your confidence and your clients’ confidence in you. And, clients who value your expertise will appreciate your transparency and your worth.

Fear of What Others Will Think

Oh, this can be a sneaky one. We’re afraid our friends and family don’t see the value in what we do. Or, we don’t want others to think we’ve gotten “too big for our britches.” Or maybe we’re afraid that other people can’t afford our rates.

Let me let you in on a secret. You do not know what someone else is thinking. You can’t control what someone else is thinking, And, you have no idea what someone else can afford.

Focus on the value you create for your clients. Focus on how to present that value to your potential clients. And don’t worry about someone else’s pockets. The right client will see the value in your offering and can decide for themselves if it fits their pockets. If it doesn’t, they’re not the right client!
